All About the LKS Blog!

Landau Kleffner Syndrome is a speech disorder that is developed in young children, usually around the age of three. It effects the part of the brain where the speech is. While the child may have perfect hearing, what is being processed may not be what is actually heard. This speech disorder is caused from a seizure, and most children, with the right help, can recover from it. With the loss of communication though, some children may develop behavioral or psychological problems.

OBJECTIVES:
1 Learning the basics to what Landau Kleffner Syndrome really is.
2 Seeing how a child may be effected by this Landau Kleffner Syndrome speech disorder.
3 How to help a child recover, such as in a classroom, or find devices and ways to help communicate with the child that will be beneficiary.

Is Sign-Language Beneficiary?

Sign-language is the use of hand motions to speak non verbally, which is used by many deaf or hard of hearing people. But can it help children with Landau Kleffner Syndrome to learn their speech quicker? Maybe not quicker, but sign language proves to be very helpful when teaching speech, as well as helping the child with communication, therefore not having him or her in isolation. By the child learning sign language, it helps to train the brain for auditory and speech training.
So in the long run, yes, sign language is proven to be beneficiary to a child with Landau Kleffner Syndrome. It shows to help the child communicate, while they can not speak the words. It also can help the child to speak better in the long run to pronounce the words that they sign.

Landau Kleffner in the Classroom

This particular article contains studies on four different children who all have Landau-Kleffner syndrome. It obtains different information on different studies and medicines taken by the children. It also contains information on each child's diagnosis, such as when they were diagnosed and the different medicines they took and what ages they took them. For instance, the fourth child was diagnosed at five years and nine months and it tells that this child had surgical intervention, as well as different medicines. All the data helps to compare the children in reflecting on their learning abilities to help the teachers in the classrooms who have students with LKS. For example, the different color patterns are helpful for some, and for others its computer programs that help focus.
Theses studies help to make a generalization for children with Landau Kleffner Syndrome to find ways to cure it and help the children to get back to learning at the level they should be, but these studies also show that each child may vary slightly on they get back to learning at their level, much like children learn in differen
t ways.

How does Landau effect your child?

Did you know that the cause to Landau-Kleffner Syndrome is still unknown today, but it also affects children in many ways. This site is here to teach those that Landau can affect a child in ways such as misdiagnoses as a child with autism, or maybe even hearing impairment, etc.
This site tells us how it may seem when in starts such as symptoms of having seizures, difficulty reply, which in terms makes it difficult for the child to respond. With these things showing, it is said that children with this syndrome are more likely to have behavioral problems as like an autistic child would. Another thing is, this syndrome seems to appear that the boy genders are more likely to have it than the girl genders. Which to me, seems very interesting.
Children diagnosed with LKS, are affected with speech and the speech areas of their brain. It is critical that a child diagnosed with LKS has someone dealing with the symptoms and helping the child learn because it is the time of their motor skill and speech development. As the child reaches their ages towards adolescence, they are known for growing out of these know symptoms and behavior, but may still have speech issues.

Landau Kleffner Syndrome in the Past into the Future

If you want to know how Landau Kleffner Syndrome came about, or how it was first noticed, and the sciences of how it effects children, this is the perfect site! Here, this site teaches us that Landau-Kleffner Syndrome has to do with dealing with a certain type of aphasia. It was then later a syndrome placed under epilepsy. Isn't that interesting? This site also gives a lot of interesting facts dealing with different types and specific cases of Landau. It is very interesting to see how so much can go into this syndrome and how much it involves.
The one thing about this site that makes it hard to navigate is the big wording. Although it is very detailed and useful information, one may not understand the big words and concepts, and therefore have a hard time understanding the details about the syndrome itself. I notices especially when talking about EEG's, there are some confusing statements there if the reader did not know what some of those words are, or ment. Other than that, this is a great site to find some very useful information about Landau-Kleffner Syndrome.

This website is on an online library that seems to be very useful. It provides the reader with much needed information about Landau-Kleffner Syndrome.
